Music has been a part of mankind’s quest for closer union with the Creator throughout recorded history. What role does music play in our prayer life today? We will examine in particular some of the popular hymns and music of our Southern Appalachian region.

Topic : Reflections on the Unknowable

Presenter: Father Terry Ryan, CSP.

Father Ryan will discuss the reflections of Father Thomas Keating, OCSO, the founder of Contemplative Outreach, in his recent book of short chapters on various subjects having to do with the contemplative experience.  Father Ryan will try to show how these reflections might help in each person’s deepening spiritual journey.

Father Terry is a Paulist priest who travels throughout the United States offering workshops, missions, retreats and evening reflections on the Contemplative Experience featuring St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the great mystics, and the spirituality of the 11th step of a 12-step recovery program. Father Terry, former pastor of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish and Center in Knoxville, was the inspiration for the founding of Seekers of Silence.

Topic: The Spirituality of End of Life Issues

Presenter: Sister Marie Moore, RSM.

Sister Marie Moore returned to health ministry in Knoxville in October 2008. Previously Sister served 21 years at St. Mary’s Medical Center and was the president of the hospital from 1971 to 1983. With her health care background and focus on spirituality, Sister Marie brings God’s love and healing presence to patients and their families.

Topic: Introduction to Healing Touch

Presenter: Brenda Rasch, PT, PC

Brenda Rasch, a certified Healing Touch practitioner and instructor, has a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a master’s in physical therapy from Boston University. During her thirty plus years of physical therapy practice she has specialized in working with autoimmune diseases and chronic pain, anxiety and stress disorders, orthopedics, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and industrial medicine.

Topic: Christmas stories and Christmas carol sing-along

Presenter: SOS members

SOS members are invited to share their favorite personal Christmas stories and join in singing traditional Christmas carols. (Note: Our December meeting will be in the living room of the office adjacent to the church.)
